Our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor

Revised: 6/10/05

We, the citizens of Vashon-Maury Island, Washington, are unwilling to sell at any price... our dignity, our freedom, or our love for justice.  We acknowledge and accept the risks of citizenship, knowing that our freedom and dignity depend on our being faithful to our principles, whatever the cost.  Therefore, We, the undersigned, do affix our names to this understanding and this pledge:  the understanding that what we strive for is equal justice for all.   Anything less is not justice at all.  And it is to the realization of this understanding, and to our love for one another, that we pledge our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.

(If you live and vote on Vashon Island, you are welcome to add your name to this.  Just let me know mark@gpln.com and once I am able to verify your name, I will add it to the list.  If you are from some other locality, I invite you to copy this page, replace the name of your community and circulate it there.  When enough people are willing to take this pledge, we will have our country back.  And all we will  have to do to get it back, is go to the polls and vote.  Of course, if not enough people feel as we do--whether they sign or not--we won't have the country we were hoping for.

In any event, we will know soon, I think, if the Great American Experiment is destined, at least in the short run, to be a success or a failure.  Soon enough, we will know if we have kept the faith... if we have taught our children well... if we understand what freedom means... if we are willing to do what it takes to preserve our heritage.)
